Mezzo -soprano Heidi Skok has carved out a unique niche for herself in the world of new music since very early in her career. A veteran of the Metropolitan Opera where she sang from 1991-2003 mostly under the baton of Maestro James Levine, Skok has recorded Ned Rorem’s Women’s Voices and Songs of Martin Hennessy on the Newport Classic label as a soprano. The Cleveland Plain Dealer stated that Skok was “a wonderfully vibrant interpreter of Ned Rorem’s Women’s Voices…..to everything Skok applies shining tonal resources and a sense of expressive urgency that is palpable.” The American Record guide said “Skok sings Hennessy’s music with abandon.” Recently, in addition to other Mezzo roles, she has been singing Madame de Croissy from Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites quite often and to great success. She is a recipient of several awards including Opera America and Opera Index among others.
In addition to her concert and opera schedule, Ms. Skok teaches voice on the faculty at The Fine Arts Association in Willoughby, OH and privately with Skokstudio in the Cleveland area, NYC, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Skype. Ms. Skok is the Founder and President of Resonanz Opera, formerly known as Resonanz Albany Singer Intensive Festival, which is a 501 c3 (non-profit organization). Resonanz is a new opera company in the Greater Cleveland area on the national level located at The Fine Arts Association. Resonanz Opera kicks off its first Opera Festival season in August, 2017.
